April’s letter to the public…

Hi my name is April. I graduated college almost two years ago… Woo! Awesome, thanks, I know I am proud of it too. Yeah even better, I have a job, my own apartment, a sick TV, blackberry, some cool friends, and my car still works too! Yeah I’m living the dream… NOT!

Let me tell you what I also have… about $9,000 in bills, supervisors breathing down my back [neck?] My Sicil-ian mother calling me about 20 times a day wondering if my laundry’s done and if my cat is still alive. There is about Nine feet of snow out my window, bizarre neighbors with four kids and counting… and a bar down the street that I never get to go to. Friends are getting married, having dogs and babies, making more money than me, that settling down and buying a house, because they are ready to admit that {insert town here}, NY is where they want to live the rest of their lives. Meanwhile I have a humongous cat named Dutchess, and a plant named Francisco, that might be dead, and [and oh no plans to get one yet, (Mom!)]

Yeah I got a life, the post-grad life, and if you’re about my age you probably have one too, and you probably think it’s lets say less than sub par and you’re probably pissed as hell that you spent 950- gazillion imaginary [idk if this is the right word, since were all spending real money, maybe say something along the lines of some-thing like, 950 gazillion dollars we wish was only imaginary money] dollars at school that didn’t teach you how to survive the post-grad life. I know, I know, I know… it SUCKS!

But I am here to tell you that it will be okay. It doesn’t have to suck completely, and one day you will get out of your parent’s house, [insert state here] and you will live the dream. Now I am not a certified PHD on the subject nor am I a therapist or Oprah — who is like the only person who matters — But I do have a lot of kind words and advice to offer. And I do have a lot of friends who have a lot to offer as well. Which is why I created this message board for you, and for me as a tool to share the woes of adulthood. This site is for US. And not to be discriminatory, but this site is also for the people who made it through it and lived to tell about it. Any for the people who are lucky enough to have it all, the job the relation-ship, the dog, the vacation spot, and even the babies to prove it — This site is for you too
